ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੈਸਕਾਰਿਆ ॥ - ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ, ਪੰਨਾ ੯੬੮

ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਕਿਸੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਿਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਅਥਵਾ ਘਟਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਅਥਵਾ ਘਟਨਾ ਯਾਦ ਆਵੇ। ਐਸੀ ਪਰਿਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਤ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਨੂੰ ‘ਅਸਥਾਨ’ ਦੀ ਪਧਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੈ।

Any place which is related to a historical person or event, upon entering which that historical figure or event comes to mind, such a place is known as an ‘Asthaan’.

ਅਸਥਾਨ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਮਾਰਤ ਵੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਜਾ ਘਟਨਾ ਯਾਦ ਆਵੇ। ਉਸ ਇਮਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਸਥੂਲ ਬਣਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਕੰਧਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਜਾਵਟ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਯਾਦ ਆਵੇ।

That Asthaan (place) may also have a building upon it, upon seeing which that historical figure/event comes to mind. The style of architecture or embellishments on the walls may also bring forth the memory of the historicity of that Asthaan.

ਅਸਥਾਨ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਹੋਵੇ। ਉਹ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਦੀ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮਰਿਆਦਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਯਾਦ ਆਵੇ।

The relics which are kept securely in that Asthaan and the daily Maryada (routine/code of conduct) also manifest its historicity.

ਜਗ੍ਹਾ, ਇਮਾਰਤ, ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀਆਂ ਯਾਦਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਿਆਦਾ, ਵਾਸਤਵ ਵਿਚ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਮੇਲਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

In reality, the place, building, relics, memories and code of conduct, the combination of all these is called an Asthaan.
